Alexander McIntosh
1784
No21. December 11th 1784
Alexander McIntosh formerly a soldier is troubled with severe pain about the ridge of the Ilium which extends entirely round the body. The pain is most severe on the right side somewhere between the haunch & the false ribs but he says that at times his loins are affected with such excruciating pains, that he can scarcely rise when he has once seated himself. Appetite good, belly regular & he has never passed any sand in his urine. He sleeps pretty well but seldom or never sweats unless from the use of a diaphoretic which generally gives him some relief. He has long been affected with the above complaints but never to the same degree as at present. The first appearance was about five years ago when his right knee & haunch bone were attacked. Last spring however, the affection spread gradually round the circumference of the pelvis & since that his bowels have been at times attacked. During the winter & spring he has always observed the pain to be much aggravated. He knows no cause for his complaint. He has used some pills & blisters with little benefit. Hab.
