William Paterson
1784
No16th November 28. 1784.
William Paterson at 9 is affected with a kind of white scab on the crown of his head which is situated upon the coronal suture just at its union with the sagittal. It is of the bigness of half a crown & at times feels very itchy. The hair does not grow upon the affected part, but in colour the part resembles very much the calx of Zinc or pith of feathers. This affection first appeared in the beginning of last May & the appearance it then exhibited was that of a small stroke of a dark blue colour. But in a short time after it began gradually to spread & at the same time to change colour from a dark blue to its present white colour. It was for some time about the size of a bean but now it has increased to that of half a crown. This affection is attributed to a blow from a stone which was thrown at him, which did not bring blood but only occasioned swelling He has taken no medicines but different doses of Senna at intervals for some months App. cataplasm. e mic pan p. aff. nec non Rx Ungt Citrin ℥ i.
