Alexander Ross
1784
No7 November 6. 1784
Alexander Ross at 20 complains of great pain in the fore part of his head from one temple to the other. At times it is accompanied with vertigo & stupor. Since the commencement of this affection, he has found a great deficiency in the senses of vision & hearing, which is often attended with tinnitus aurium. The pain of the head is not fixed for any length of time but is continually moving on an horizontal direction across the forehead. From the time of rising in the morning till about twelve at noon he generally finds himself pretty easy but after this period it begins gradually to increase till about six in the evening when it is most excruciating. Appetite impaired. Pulse 89 Belly regular. He has been troubled with this complaint for upwards of four months. When he was first attacked with it he was employed at his usual occupation of a labourer in a quarry which subjected him to the necessity of being often in a stooping posture. He can assign no other cause for this complaint, & he has taken no medicines before his admission into the Dispensary. Since that time, he has employed blisters issues, powder of Valerian, Bark Opium & several other medicines but without any material benefit. Excitat fontic ex [Occuput.] & cap. Pil.
