    No39. March 17 1784

    Peggy Brown at 13 complains of continual pains affecting her back, the lower part of her abdomen, the right side of her breast & the fore & back part of her head; and also of a deep seated pain, in the joint of her right arm. Her legs towards evening appear red, & swelled, but never pit on pressure. She is generally cold, frequently trembles & has some transient hot fits.

    Appetite bad, belly natural Pulse 80 of moderate strength.

    Yesterday she felt considerable pain & difficulty in voiding her urine which still continues.

    Has never had the menses.

    These symptoms have continued for the last fortnight.

    She is a little better today. Her mother says that yesterday she was very hot & delirious. Knows no cause for her complaints.
