    Christian Stuart

    1784

    No29 February 6th 1784

Christian Stuart at 36. complains of difficulty of breathing & scanty expectoration which are worse in the afternoon. She complains also of general debility, but feels it more particularly in the back, which is always painful. The cough & expectoration remit a little about the time that the menses should appear, & continue easier for a week when they return again. The pains of her back increase every month & she then feels a pain in different parts of the abdomen. They continue for an hour when she begins to discharge from the vagina a whitish fluid streaked with blood. The discharge is generally only in small quantity but continues to flow for three days Pulse natural, belly regular, appetite bad.

Five years ago in the winter season she was washing in a pond while the menses were flowing

They immediately stopped & for several menstrual periods afterwards, she discharged blood by the mouth. The present complaint soon afterwards supervened & has continued ever since without any alteration, but she finds herself to be growing weaker daily. She has taken no medicines
