    Mary Manuel

    1784

    No25. January 30th 1784

Mary Manuel at 29 of a sanguine temperament five or six times every day feels a pain beginning in the right side of her body which moves upwards & in about ten minutes fixes itself in the stomach & back. She then becomes sick & in about a quarter of an hour afterwards she begins to vomit. The matter discharged is very acid. When the sickness comes on she is flushed & hot & has a trembling over her whole frame

She has not found that any particular food or liquor either aggravates or retards the fits. Pulse & Belly natural. Appetite impaired. menses return at long intervals, are small in quantity & very irregular.

She thinks her complaint is considerably easier while her menses are flowing. After being affected in this way for a month, the vomiting & other symptoms disappear for the succeeding month, & then return with their former violence.

Thus she has continued for these last twelve months past.

She has taken a few doses of the Confection Japonica as she thinks with advantage. She knows no cause to which she can attribute her complaint.
