    Peter Paton at 23. A lame man, by trade a shoemaker has a frequent watery diarrhoea & is unable to retain his stools, which come away without gripes or tenesmus, & he never passed any blood with them. Pulse about 100 & of natural strength tongue appetite & thirst natural. Health good. He sleeps well & is not troubled with looseness during the night & in a morning he has sometimes a stool of a natural consistence. His affection began about five months ago without any obvious cause

    Since that he has been once free from it about a month. But it has lately returned & is become very troublesome to him especially while he is sitting at his work.

    He has taken no medicines except two vomits which he got last week but his complaints continue as before.

    December 14. Since the use of the injection, his looseness has been very much diminished.
