    Rosina Campbell

    1782

    Rosina Campbell at 22.

    June 6th 1782.

Of a fair complexion & full habit of body has very severe & almost constant cough attended with great dyspnoea & oppression at the precordia in so much, that she is frequently almost stifled.

She expectorates a viscid saltish tasted matter at present, of a whitish colour but which is sometimes green or blueish. It has a peculiarly ill taste, & has sometimes a tinge of blood.

These symptoms are most severe at night, & she sleeps but little from the severity of her cough. Pulse about 120 & rather full. Tongue red in the middle, but its edges surrounded with a white fur, with some tinge of yellow. She is very thirsty

Belly very bound. Catamenia have not appeared for the two last menstrual periods. Urine very high coloured. Appetite gone, & she has frequent night sweats. She has also frequent shiverings at uncertain periods, succeeded by some degree of heat; but these symptoms are not regular.

About seven weeks since she was seized with pain of her head for which her hair was cut off with relief. She had also a vomit, which she thinks was of no service to her. After this she was seized with epistaxis which continued two days, & during that time, she lost a gill1 of blood. On the ceasing of this haemorrhage, she was seized with flying pains, for which she was pricked with a lancet in both arms, but without drawing off any blood.

She has taken no medicines & attributes her complains to a sitten down cold from setting potatoes in the country
