Robert Haitley At 40
May 8th 1782. Is distressed with severe cough, sometimes affecting his breathing, which is commonly most troublesome in the afternoon, & he is sometimes kept by it from sleeping in the night. He generally [awakes] with a cough; in the morning he expectorates a very viscid matter sometimes streaked with blood, when the cough is violent; & he has then some oppression at the breast. He has sometimes chilly fits while at work, & especially today while the weather was very fine. Pulse intermittent & varying in point of strength. Tongue moist & clean Belly regular, but rather loose. Appetite very good. Breath offensive, & he has a disagreeable taste in his mouth, whenever the cough is high. He was seized about two months ago, by a violent vomiting, & purging for which he was bled, & took a purge. About a fortnight after this, he began to spit blood. Which was at first pure & unmixed. He has used Forbeses Lozenges by the recommend action of a lady for the cough but without relief May 10th Rx Mist Mucil ℥VI Pulv. Fol. Cicut. ℥ii.Mcap. ℥p ter de die. 17th Has taken the mixture with the Pulveris Cicuta without any obvious affect. All his symptoms continue much as before & he has every day some bloody expectoration Pulse still quick & irregular. Belly rather loose Cont Mist cum Pulv. Cicut. & applic vesic inter [seap]. & portea [fat] fontin one Ungt Epispast
