May 1st. 1782.
Rachael Young. At. 42. Once every six weeks or about that time after having felt an uneasy sensation or tickling in the fauces & great weight & uneasiness in her breast she is seized with a spitting at first of pure blood & afterwards only of a mixture of blood & mucus. This bloody expectoration is attended with a cough from which she is never entirely free. The spitting of blood generally continues for about two days. She perceives no other obvious symptom, but preceding the spitting she has a great palpitation. This however she also perceives at other times. She also at times discharges much wind from the stomach which generally in its passage gives the sensation of a ball in the throat. She is constantly affected with great pain & weakness in the small of her back shooting to the fore part of her belly, & she has a large discharge of fluor albus with a frequent inclination to pass water, but there is no pain attending it. Appetite pretty good, no thirst belly very bound. She has had the Leucorrhoea for two years; & the spitting of blood for about one year. About six months before the spitting of blood began her menses stopped but without any preternatural cause. Previous to that stopping however for five months the discharge was in very great quantity. She has used no medicines & knows no particular cause for her disease, her brother was subject to a spitting of blood. Rx Pulv. Crem Tart. ℥i Alum gr VMcap. dos bis indies May 10th Cont. Med sed aug.
