Affection somewhat of complicated nature At once subject to dysentery & catarrhal affections. With former had been affected for many years. But latter only of recent date. Was with view to both that had recourse to solution of Gum Ammoniacum. This in catarrhal affections long much used by greatest part of practitioners. And from what have myself seen of it, am convinced with good effects. Often given in substances as in form of pills. Particularly as combined with Squills. But acts more readily in solution For this purpose common water generally employed. Here however had recourse to [Ag] [Men] [Py] To this chiefly led with view to stomach complaint. Hoped at least, that in expulsion of wind from stomach, would aid ammoniacum which of itself justly ranked among [illegible] [illegible] In these effects were not disappointed. For under use symptoms soon somewhat alleviated. And probably would have been more so, if regularly taken. At first had effect of keeping belly open. But, as soon lost influence in this way, directed with intention of obviating costiveness the Pill Foetid cum Aloe. And under use of these [with] former medicine, all symptoms even so far left him, that dismissed from any farther attendance. At same time can hardly consider him as radically cured And without attention & [regularity] all symptoms of stomach will soon again return.
