    William Robertson

    (1780-1781)

Of case of William Robertson Senior when last spoke of him very doubtful

Little hesitation indeed in pronouncing more obvious symptoms to be of paralytic kind

Yet was a paralytic affection [evidently] with great peculiarities.

From these led to form conjecture that might depend on compression.

And that this compression from water.

During treatment of case however [nothing] has occurred tending to confirm suspicions.

And now disposed to think it less probable than formerly.

When last spoke of case had put him on use of Camphor.

And intimated intention, that before deserting it, should give fair trial.

Accordingly now continued to considerable [extent] for space of several [months].

To this encouraged by change [which] has taken place since began use.

Dare hardly however venture to say that this change effect of Camphor

Yet unquestionable that affection of patient very considerably diminished.
