The College's SAS sub-committee recently discussed the issue of SAS doctors acting as Educational Supervisors. The sub-committee supports this in principle. We recommend that only doctors with a minimum of 4 years’ experience at SAS level should be eligible for consideration. Each case should be considered individually at a local level by the relevant Training Programme Director or another responsible officer within the Deanery. All doctors assuming the role of educational supervisor, whether consultant or SAS doctor, should undergo appropriate training and monitoring and job plans should reflect this role.
