Professor Richard Donnelly was elected to College council in November 2016 to represent Central England. 

He is Professor of Medicine in the University of Nottingham (1997-present) and undertakes clinical duties at Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation trust.

His clinical & research interests are in cardiovascular endocrinology.  Originally a Birmingham medical graduate (1984), he obtained a PhD and completed his higher specialist training as a Lecturer & Senior Registrar in Glasgow.

Prof Donnelly has held various leadership roles within the university of Nottingham and the East Midlands NHS, for example as Divisional Medical Director in a large Acute trust in Derby (2014-2017), and as Head of School (2007-2015) and Associate Dean (2000-2007) in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences at Nottingham.  He established Nottingham’s fast-track 4-year medical course for graduate-entrants in 2003.

Prior to his appointment in Nottingham, he was a Senior Lecturer in the University of Sydney and completed a 2-year British Heart Foundation Fellowship at Stanford University, USA.
