MRCP(UK) and JRCPTB are seeking to appoint lay representatives to their committees and boards. MRCP (UK) is seeking to appoint 4 lay representatives and JRCPTB is seeking to appoint 9 representatives.

Lay involvement in the management and organisation of our work as essential. Lay representation in the governance of healthcare organisations, including professional bodies, is well-established and facilitates wider appreciation of the public interest, stronger external oversight, and greater public assurance. Successful applicants will become members of the respective boards and committees, and will actively participate in their work and projects.

This is a non-salaried position though applicants should note all reasonable expenses and travel costs will be reimbursed in line with the expenses policy. The tenure of office is three years.

MRCP (UK)

MRCP (UK) develops and delivers examinations for physicians at different stages of their training. These exams are quality benchmarks of medical knowledge and clinical skills, indicating that passing doctors have the requisite high level of knowledge. The development and delivery of these examinations play a vital role in ensuring patient safety and driving learning in trainee doctors.

The lay representatives on MRCP (UK) boards take an independent, non-clinical overview on the general proceedings and promote an external viewpoint in the development of strategy and policy of MRCP(UK) examinations. They provide input into the external quality assurance of the examinations delivery, support the officers of their board or committee in delivering examinations and meeting the requirements set by the General Medical Council (GMC).

We have vacancies on the following boards: Management and Policy Board, which oversees the governance of MRCP(UK); the Academic Quality Management and Research Committee, responsible for the academic quality of our examinations and directing research projects; and the Clinical Examining Board and Scenario Editorial Committee, which oversees the academic quality and delivery of the MRCP(UK) clinical examination. A copy of the remit and responsibilities of these boards can be found on the MRCP (UK) website.

JRCPTB is responsible for the setting and maintaining standards for the highest quality physician training, including the development and implementation of curricula for physicians throughout their training. JRCPTB Specialty Advisory Committees (SAC) contribute to the development of training policies within that specific medical specialties and sub specialties.

We have vacancies on the following SACs: Palliative Medicine, Gastroenterology, Metabolic Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Medical Oncology, Haematology. Audiovestibular and Clinical Neurophysiology.

Lay representative on JRCPTB SACs are non-health care professionals with an interest in medical training and ability to represent the interests of the lay public to specialty medical professionals. They actively engage in all aspects of the committee including decision making and voting. Committees meet two to three times a year depending on the business of that committee.
