The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has awarded the Chiron Medal to Dr Alison Brown, Consultant Nephrologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

This prestigious award was introduced in 2012 and recognises excellence in teaching and training by a physician. This year attracted a strong field of 11 nominations from around the UK. Dr Brown has been the Nephrology Training Programme Director in the Northern Region for many years.  The renal training programme has achieved high levels of overall satisfaction by national ranking and incorporated a high-achieving academic programme.  Dr Brown is Secretary of the Renal Association and Director of Online Education, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. She is highly regarded by trainees and trainers for her exceptional commitment to trainees and has delivered teaching and contributed to service review in Nepal.

Dr Brown will be presented with the medal at a forthcoming College event.
