Responding to today’s (13 January) publication of Sir Keith Pearson’s Review of Revalidation – Taking Revalidation Forward, Professor Derek Bell, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, said:

“We welcome this report and agree that it is a fair and balanced evaluation of the status of revalidation following this first cycle.

“We look forward to working with the GMC and other partner agencies to implement Sir Keith’s recommendations and will continue to provide revalidation support to our members and Fellows.

“The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh has already expressed an interest in becoming involved in the on-going patient information project through the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. We will also work towards identifying ways of measuring how revalidation can be used as a driver of patient safety and more widely for quality assurance and improvement purposes”.
