The Scottish Parliament Health and Sport Committee is undertaking an inquiry into NHS Governance and the culture of the NHS in Scotland. The second part of this inquiry focuses on clinical governance. This refers to the systems through which NHS organisations are accountable for continuously monitoring and improving the quality of their care and services, and ensuring they safeguard high standards.

The College response notes the importance of ensuring there are sufficient numbers of appropriately trained staff, and critically appraising services. It also notes that a more consistent approach to taking patient and service users' perspectives into account is needed when planning and delivering services.
