The College response highlighted the importance of the broad “One Health” agenda - tackling antibiotic use and misuse in agriculture and in the environment and better understanding of its relation to human health and AMR - locally and globally, and noted here are ongoing challenges in acute hospital practice to control increased prescribing of antimicrobials. Part of this is putting into practice the emerging evidence which supports shorter course antibiotic therapy for many common conditions and more rapid de-escalation of therapy informed by proper review of prescribing in individuals. Sustainable behaviour change amongst clinicians (in prescribing practice) is central to future success in this programme.
