Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh

Full-time (35 hours per week), two-year fixed term post.

Salary £33,503

Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1JQ.

With a worldwide reputation for educational excellence, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh exists to promote the highest standards of patient care. One of the ways we do this is by our programme of education to support trained doctors and doctors in training who are pursuing a career in specialist internal medicine. The College has long been committed to the internationalisation of its education programme, and a new opportunity has arisen for an exceptional candidate to join the RCPE Education team, in a role that has been created to support the delivery of the College’s international strategy.

This role provides senior support to working groups and the person appointed will work closely with the International Director and Head of Department, bringing to the role experience and knowledge in establishing and operating appropriate systems.  You will be responsible for the provision of critical senior administration support to international projects, namely our ‘Medical Training Initiative’.  Your appointment will enable the College to increase the number of specialty training placements we provide of up to two years in duration for senior international trainees.  You can read about the scheme at: http://bit.ly/MTIRCPE

The College is looking for a positive, motivated candidate with a determined attitude and excellent communication skills.  The successful candidate will support the establishment of reciprocal partnerships with overseas institutions, government agencies, and will also engage with individuals.  Educated to degree level or equivalent, you may have experience in a similar role in a HR or University environment, and you will either have worked outside the UK or engaged in a significant amount of international travel.  You will have the patience and good humour required to deal positively with stakeholders at all levels including the UKBA, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, other member Colleges and Deaneries or LETBs throughout the UK and you will delight in providing excellent customer service and will find the establishment of reciprocal partnerships rewarding.

This is a full-time post, initially for two-years fixed term.  Hours of work are 35 per week, normally 9am until 5pm with an hour for lunch, Monday to Friday inclusive.  There are occasions when it will be necessary to work outside normal office hours.  A system of TOIL is in place to accommodate this.

Informal enquiries about this post may be made to Shona McGlynn, Project Manager (International) by telephone on 0131 2473646 on Mondays and Wednesdays or email to s.mcglynn@rcpe.ac.uk.  Please send completed application forms to Sophie Birch at s.birch@rcpe.ac.uk.
