Vacancy with:
Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh

An opportunity has arisen for a College Fellow or Member to act as our Obituaries Editor, as a result of the current postholder’s (Prof Peter Brunt) decision to step down from this position.

The role can be very rewarding as it affords an opportunity for the postholder to facilitate the College’s recognition of the significant professional and personal achievements of recently deceased Fellows and Members, nationally and internationally.

In the main we would be looking for an enthusiastic, sensitive and diplomatic Fellow or Member who would be willing to contact colleagues, friends or the family of deceased Fellows and Members to commission obituaries; where no commissions can be facilitated, the postholder may choose to write an obituary based upon factual information collated by staff, to oversee the drafting of an obituary or to consider if we may wish to reproduce, with permission, obituaries published in other outlets.

All obituaries are then published on our website. http://www.rcpe.ac.uk/obituaries

The work can be done remotely and the postholder will require access to e-mail, the internet and possess common IT skills (for writing and/or editing obituaries). The position would also be suited to an individual who enjoys writing and editing. Support will be provided by Library staff (collating factual information) and Editorial staff (formatting and proofing obituaries prior to publication). The appointment would be for 3 years.

Informal enquiries to Graeme McAlister, Head of Fellowship & Membership Services, on 0131-247-3693 / g.mcalister@rcpe.ac.uk
