Policy responses and statements
Background: The International Division of the Department of Health commissioned Tribal Newchurch and its partners, the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) and Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO), to develop a new NHS framework for international development. This document attempts to set out the key elements of an NHS framework for international development to encourage and enable individuals, NHS organisations and others to participate in activities that support health improvement in LMI countries. First, as an overview, these elements include an analysis of relevant government policies, a description of the current system, including benefits to all parties and barriers to participation. The second part of the document is aimed to give practical advice and guidance to key players to help them overcome unnecessary barriers in order to take action to participate in appropriate ways. This consultation was aimed at anyone involved in or interested in international development work. This includes individuals, NHS organisations, health educators, professional bodies, NGOs and others. Views were sought on the consultation questions and any other comments on any aspect of the document. Download this consultation response as a .pdf
