Centre of Excellence - An independent consultation on proposals for a Centre of Excellence for workforce strategy and planning on behalf of the Department of Health

Background: The NHS Next Stage Review report 'A High Quality Workforce' announced plans for a Centre of Excellence to support workforce strategy and planning in the NHS with evidence and analysis at every level in the health and social care system.

The King’s Fund has been asked by the Department of Health to carry out a process of engagement on the proposed Centre of Excellence with stakeholders across the health and social care system. The Fund will report to the Department in November. The report will put forward a series of recommendations covering the following issues:

  • functions and remit
  • leadership
  • principles for governance
  • transitional arrangements
  • potential hosts.

The Department of Health has established an Advisory Board to support and inform the programme of work to establish the Centre of Excellence.

The King's Fund invited written submissions from interested parties. Respondents were asked to limit their responses to 3,000 words and provide any particularly lengthy supporting documentation as appendices or give a web link where appropriate.
