Policy responses and statements

Name of organisation:
National Clinical Dataset Development Programme (NCDDP)
Name of policy document:
Cancer Core Phase 2 Data Standards - Consultation Document
Deadline for response:
19 January 2007

Background: The NCDDP sought feedback on five new clinical data standards for Scotland, including the Cancer Core Phase 2 Data Standards. The NCDDP feel that feedback is essential since these data items and definitions will be those which will be used in any Electronic Health Record in Scotland. Systems which adhere to these data standards will be able to communicate with each other and share information (for instance between primary and secondary care and between hospitals) - this is vital to optimise the care of patients. Consultees were asked to take the opportunity to ensure that they are fit for purpose.

The Cancer Core Phase 2 Data Standards will:

- Define common data items recommended for collection in a wide variety of clinical settings.
- Support the exchange of patient information between healthcare providers.
- Support the consistent recording of patient information throughout NHS Scotland.

Some NCDDP cancer core standards have already been published. However, a need for further cancer core standards was identified.
