Policy responses and statements

Name of organisation:
General Medical Council
Name of policy document:
Review of Prescribing Guidance
Deadline for response:
27 January 2006

Background: In October 2004, the GMC published guidance on prescribing in the form of frequently asked questions. The Standards and Ethics Committee recently considered revisions to that guidance, and the College is asked to comment on the changes proposed. The format has changed, and a number of minor corrections, updates and clarifications have been made.

The main changes on which comments are sought relate to:

- Doctors prescribing for themselves and their families and controlled drugs;
- Doctors with interests in pharmacies;
- Dispensing practices;
- 'Counter-signing' prescriptions from overseas; and
- Any other comments
