Leaders of the Medical Royal Colleges in Scotland have expressed their concerns over the junior doctor contract proposals.

On Wednesday 23rd September, the Presidents of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow wrote a letter to the Secretary of State Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP on this issue.

The colleges, who have no responsibility for negotiating contracts, are concerned at the consequences of imposing the current proposals on trainees and feel that they would jeopardise the future of the NHS by undervaluing and demotivating a group of doctors already under significant pressure.

The letter offered support for the nine Royal Colleges who wrote to the Secretary of State on Friday 18th September to highlight similar concerns. A letter from the Royal College of GPs has also been issued.

The Presidents also support the letter sent by the members of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Trainee Doctors Group (ATDG) this week, who have expressed their concerns at the proposed imposition of a new contract.
