RCPE welcomes Institute of Alcohol Studies' report on ‘Alcohol’s Harm to Others’

Commenting on the publication of the Institute of Alcohol Studies and University of Sheffield’s report, Prof Derek Bell, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, said:

“The RCPE has read with interest the Institute of Alcohol Studies and University of Sheffield report on ‘Alcohol’s Harm to Others’, which examines the impact that alcohol has on people other than the drinker.

“The report raises a number of important issues and demonstrates that the consequences of alcohol drinking are not restricted to the drinker but can impact upon their family, friends, and the wider community.

“While focus has centred on tackling the problems caused by excessive consumption of alcohol, more needs to be done to ensure that policies are coordinated to reduce the wider social harm that exists.”
