Abstract

The  combined  oral  contraceptive  pill  has  been  used  by  an  estimated 300 million women worldwide since it was first developed. In recent years it has been linked with both an increased risk of some forms of cancer and a protective effect  against  other  cancers  –  leading  to  considerable  confusion  for  women.  In order  to  provide  much-needed  clarity,  Dr  Richard  Russell  and  Mr  Charles Kingsland  provide  an  overview  of  the  risks  and  benefits  of  the  combined  oral contraceptive pill.
