NHS England has confirmed that doctors' pensions will be topped up, to meet pension tax liabilities from undertaking additional duties.

The College has welcomed this announcement.

Commenting, Professor Derek Bell, president of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, said:

We have been calling for action on the issue of doctors' pensions - which has been continually raised by our Fellows and Members - for some time now.

We therefore welcome this announcement, which follows a recent drive from Scotland to address the pensions problem.

However, we still need to see a sustainable position on NHS pensions for the UK outlined by the Treasury.

Any individuals who would like to know more about NHS pension changes can seek independent advice from a pensions advisor.
