Regional Adviser for TrentProfessor George Thomson is stepping down as the Regional Adviser for the Trent Region, and a successor is therefore required. The election will be carried out in accordance with Council's policy of advertising vacancies to the Fellowship. The Region covers Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Northants. The term of office is 5 years, and Fellows in the Region who are practising physicians may apply. (Retired Fellows may wish to encourage other Fellows to consider this opportunity). Applicants must be an examiner for the MRCP(UK) or, if they are not eligible to become examiners because they do not work in acute or general medicine, they must be prepared to observe the examination in progress. A paper outlining the functions of a Regional Adviser is enclosed for your information. I would be very happy to discuss the job and its challenges and, indeed, any questions you might have by telephone at the University Hospital of North Tees (01642 624571). Alternatively, you might wish to discuss the post directly with Professor Thomson, who is the Chief Medical Officer based at Rotherham Hospital (prof tel: 01709 424756). If you would like to apply for this position, please send me a letter of application together with a brief curriculum vitae. The deadline for receipt of applications is Wednesday 15 February 2012 at the latest. If a number of applications are received, a local election may be held in the Region.
