What We Do
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) is a professional membership organisation. Our principal concern is to develop and oversee an ongoing programme of medical examinations, education and training for qualified doctors who wish to undertake postgraduate education and training in order to pursue a career in specialist (internal) medicine. While the RCPE is based in Edinburgh, we have a strong UK and international presence, as evidenced by our membership of over 10,000 Fellows and members in 91 countries and covering 56 medical specialties. We provide a range of educational materials and information services, many of which are available online and can be accessed by doctors throughout the UK and around the world in their daily practice. In parallel to these core activities we ensure that the views and practical clinical experiences of doctors are taken into account by policymakers when developing health policy and we are actively involved in promoting and influencing the public health. The RCPE is governed by a Council, College Laws, Royal Charter and a series of topic-specific committees.
