Medical Training InitiativeMedical Training InitiativeThe Medical Training Initiative (MTI) is a national scheme enabling a small number of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to come to the UK for up to 24 months, to experience training and development. The IMGs train in the NHS before returning to their home country to implement their new skills and experience. Supervised by a qualified NHS consultant, RCPE IMGs receive core and/or specialty medical training. In most instances the training plan is tailored to suit the MTI doctor’s educational objectives, and considers the work the doctor wishes to undertake on returning home. The MTI is suitable for training at all levels, especially individuals seeking a period of higher training in more senior training posts such as Specialty Training Year 5, Year 6 or Year 7. The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) has approval to sponsor GMC registration for IMGs. Further information can be found by clicking the links on the right.
